Comer Announces Hearing to Examine the Federal Government’s Use of Artificial Intelligence Technology
WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) today announced a hearing on “The Federal Government in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The hearing will explore the global landscape of artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on the importance of the federal government deploying this transformative technology to drive efficiency, reduce fraud, and provide better customer service to American taxpayers. Members will also examine how outdated legacy information technology (IT) systems, a lack of AI literacy within the federal workforce, a cumbersome procurement process for new technologies, and poorly managed data have hindered government adoption of AI technology. This hearing follows President Donald Trump’s Executive Order that embraces AI innovation in the United States and aims to reduce barriers in the AI field to ensure America’s dominance on the international stage.
“The United States is the global leader in AI, but we must never take this advantage for granted. AI powers critical defense technologies and drives innovation in industries from healthcare to manufacturing. President Trump and his administration understand that AI represents the next frontier, and maintaining our technological edge is a critical priority in the years ahead. As AI adoption accelerates, the federal government needs to be prepared to deploy this transformative technology efficiently and effectively. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to unleash AI responsibly and ensure the federal government leads innovation while protecting the interests and rights of all Americans,” said Chairman Comer.
